Groovy,
baby...These recordings of me on
guitar (and one on North Indian sitar) are show and tell for family and friends who have never heard
me play. Someday I may put up some of my vocal covers, but for
now there are just a few instrumental pieces.
The recordings are 64-bit Windows Audio. The originals were made using a
Yamaha DW-15 with a webcam mic, believe it or not, but I've
tried to compensate for the cheap equipment with a bit of digital
magic. Eventually I'll get around to re-recording these and other
pieces with my lovely Martin 000-15 and some better equipment.

Causeway,
by Alex de Grassi (1.9 MB). One of my absolute
favorite pieces to play, vibrant and full of jewels at every turn.
Recorded August 8, 2005.
Turning: Turning Back,
by Alex de Grassi (4.4 MB). This piece, one of
the most beautiful acoustic works ever, is
long, lyrical, and has a scintillating middle section. Astute de
Grassi fans will notice a few
mistakes in this recording, as I was still working it up to
performance standards at the time of recording, but Alex's music is gorgeous nonetheless.
This performance (mistakes and all) is based on my own complete
note-for-note
transcription, possibly the only one in existence at this time. Recorded August 8, 2005.
Processional,
by William Ackerman (1.8 MB). A short, pensive
composition, from my own transcription which uses standard tuning
instead of the EAEGBC of the original recording. One of the first pieces I
learned when I started playing guitar again in June 2004. Recorded
August 9, 2005.
The Bricklayer's Beautiful Daughter, by William Ackerman
(1.8 MB). Another short but sweet composition.
Recorded August 9, 2005.
Rag
Darbari
(6.0 MB). Excerpts from a sitar performance of
one of the most dramatic of the North Indian ragas.
Includes the full alap section, part of jor, and the
final moments of the climactic jhala. Recorded December 12,
1999. |
